Today we were talking about nocturnal animals - with a particular focus on owls; we talked about their diet and the children had the opportunity to dissect an owl pellet to try and work out what the owl last ate using the bones, fur and feathers found inside.
There was also the opportunity for the children to saw a tree cookie and, after melting some wax pellets in the campfire, stamp a colourful owl onto it.
We made the most of the rain with a spot of boat building - which we could then float on the hug puddles that had formed over the morning! The rain had also made it’s mark on a den that had been left up from the previous week…the roof had basically (in the words of the children) become a bowl and collected the water. This meant some problem solving and engineering to try and fix it and ensure the water only ran off the roof from now on!
