A lovely, busy afternoon with lots of happy children and achievements.
For the first time ever, we used a medieval method and made pitch pine glue using beeswax, pine resin and charcoal.
The children found sticks and stones and used a knife and hammer to split the wood. Placing the stone inside, we used twine and the pitch pine glue to keep it in place. Whilst searching for stones, a few children were keen to break some to look for fossils; using safety goggles and a hammer, they were able to break one open and they did, indeed, find a fossil - super exciting!!
Kites were popular, with willow being lashed to create the frame. The children loved running around to make them fly!
