Meet Our Mighty Falcons...

Hello and welcome to the Y5/6 Falcons family! We are very proud of the warm atmosphere we have in class and our new recruits fit right in - we are very pleased to be in the company of such a positive, friendly, upbeat group of children and predict a wonderful year ahead!

All the adults in Falcons work very hard to enable the children to be the very best they can possibly be - both academically and in terms of their wellbeing.  Mrs Bostock's expertise and knowledge is indispensable to us all, and we are joined by Mrs Edmunds this year - a welcome addition with her wealth of skills! We also have Mrs Fairhurst, Mrs Rae, Mrs Hunter and Ms Paradiso contributing to give the children a rounded and interesting curriculum each week.

Good communication and mutual support between home and school is at the heart of our practice in Falcons and valued highly. Parents, your children come first, so please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns, no matter how trivial these may seem - we are here to help and keep everyone as happy as we can!

With warmest wishes,

Miss Kerr

Primary Mathematics Challenge

All our Year 5 and 6 children went to Magdalen College School in Oxford to have a go at a range of practical and confusing Maths challenges. They did extremely well, in their Maths skills but also in their teamwork and exemplary behaviour which attracted comments from several of Magdalen's staff. Well done everyone.

Science Week

Tutu Class have had a very exciting start to our science week. The children absolutely loved making mini rafts! We had to try and find out which material and shape would help the raft hold more weight. One group managed to make a raft that held more than 600g! We also pretended to be estate agents by choosing the most suitable habitat for a range of birds, such as kingfishers, tawny owls and sparrows. We can't wait to see what's in store for next week!

Cycling success

Congratulations to everyone who took the Cycling Proficiency Test on Friday 29th September. They all passed not only Level 1 but Level 2, which is very unusual. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who made it happen.

Show and Tell

On Wednesday, we experienced some extreme scootering in the school playground! We were so impressed that Curie class had to get involved and watch too - there's nothing like jumping over your brother on a scooter to create a bit of excitement!

Crime and Punishment

We have now begun our topic of crime and punishment, which we are all very excited about! We've started by looking at the middle ages and the punishments and crimes that were common during the Anglo-Saxon period. The children learned all about the stocks, gibbet and the ordeals of fire, water and combat. They also did some beautiful sketches of these last week too!
