Meet Our Mighty Falcons...
Hello and welcome to the Y5/6 Falcons family! We are very proud of the warm atmosphere we have in class and our new recruits fit right in - we are very pleased to be in the company of such a positive, friendly, upbeat group of children and predict a wonderful year ahead!
All the adults in Falcons work very hard to enable the children to be the very best they can possibly be - both academically and in terms of their wellbeing. Mrs Bostock's expertise and knowledge is indispensable to us all, and we are joined by Mrs Edmunds this year - a welcome addition with her wealth of skills! We also have Mrs Fairhurst, Mrs Rae and Ms Paradiso contributing to give the children a rounded and interesting curriculum each week.
Good communication and mutual support between home and school is at the heart of our practice in Falcons and valued highly. Parents, your children come first, so please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns, no matter how trivial these may seem - we are here to help and keep everyone as happy as we can!
With warmest wishes,
Seasoned Forest Schoolers
It’s official; some of our current Year 6’s started Forest School in Foundation and have been lucky enough to experience it every year throughout their time here at Brize😊
Today, some of the Falcons got straight into building dens and camps and wandering around beating a tribal drum! Meanwhile, others reacquainted themselves with fire lighting and attempting to keep their fire burning; not easy on a cold, damp day - so this will give us something to build on! Whittling was popular with a large group and many charcoal pencils were made. I brought along an engraving pen for the children to experiment with on wood and will continue to have it out each week so that they can try out different techniques.
Elves' Treasure Hunt
We had a visit from Santa's Elves, who looked suspiciously like our Year 6 house captains! They had naughtily hidden Santa's sweets all over the Story Garden and cast silly-dance spells over anyone who tried to find them. All the classes took part and had great fun. Thank you to the house captains and thank you to everyone who donated to Ronald Macdonald House.
The day Santa came to Brize
What an exciting afternoon we had! The children got to meet Santa and they each received a lovely gift.
Our Voyagers and Falcons children performed some of the things they have been learning in their brass lessons to their parents on 13th December with their teacher, Mr Gray. Earlier in the day we were also lucky to have a performance from a former pupil and chorister of Christ Church Cathedral, who played his French horn and sang to us.
Falcons At Forest School
Storm Barra seemed to blow in and blow out with some heavy rain and the kids naturally got busy, working together, to build some amazing dens. Unfortunately, they worked hard in the rain and - by the time they were built and they were ready to shelter - the rain had stopped!! Firelighting was popular, with one small group keen to cut their own kindling and get a bigger fire lit and kept alight. There was also plenty of creativity - with Christmas wreaths being woven, elves being whittled, pebble snowmen coloured and tree decorations sawn. It was, altogether, a lovely afternoon!!
