Welcome to Voyager Class!

Welcome one and all!

In Voyagers, our philosophy is simple. We strive to do our best, approaching each new challenge with fortitude and a ‘can do’ attitude.

We may find new concepts hard to begin with but, with determination and perseverance, we will get there together!

All areas of the curriculum are equally important: some subjects provide challenges and some enable us to shine. Some give us mountains to climb and the satisfaction of reaching the summit, with a glorious fist pump. Others enable us to develop skills in areas in which we are confident, permitting the well-earned glow of further success. For each of us, these challenges are different – how wonderful that we are all individual!

Whatever the challenge, we do it together. Every single member of the Voyagers class is of equal importance and value. We look after each other and applaud the successes of each individual.

We are so lucky that Miss Kearvell and Mrs Mulcahy join our team to help us on our journey. Their invaluable assistance and encouragement promotes our learning and development.

Parents, please remember that your input is invaluable and greatly appreciated. Feel free to approach any one of us whenever you have a concern or something to share. An appointment is not necessary. The door is always open!

Our class name could not be more apt – it is a vital link with our community but also represents the ability of each and every one of us to fly!

Let’s approach our time together with a positive attitude and the anticipation of that wonderful phrase: ‘Yes! I get it!’

Off we go!

Crime and Punishment

As part of our Crime and Punishment topic, the children spent the afternoon sketching various medieval punishments, such as the guillotine and stocks! They focused really hard on their shading and the pictures will be added to our (currently very plain-looking!) classroom display.

Year 6 Parent Information

Please find attached a copy of the Year 6 parent letter with information regarding homework, including reading records, and PE.

Spelling Heaven!

Homework

We would like the children to focus on learning their weekly spellings (tested on Monday mornings) and their times tables (tested on Wednesday morning). Children receive their new weekly spellings on Tuesdays and their maths homework on Wednesdays. We are sure that you are aware that the age-related expectations for your children have increased significantly and that we need to prepare them as well as we can for their future learning. This requires the children to have an instant recall of multiplication and division facts to 12x12. When the children have passed all of their times tables tests then they will receive different maths homework in which they will consolidate the weekly learning. Year 6 children will receive supplementary homework. Occasionally, another piece of homework may be sent home. This might be related to one of our school events, for example our Harvest Festival.

Please support your children to complete their homework. They should also be reading for at least twenty minutes, five times a week. Year 4 and 5 children are expected to write the date, title of their book and number of pages read. This helps us to guide your children's choice of reading material. Year 6 children should be writing about what they have read, guided by comments made by a teacher.

We thank you for your support.

Miss Musgrave, Mrs Bostock, Mrs Coombs and Mrs Barker

Welcome to Class 4 and Class 5!

Welcome to everyone!

Year 4 and Year 5 pupils are taught by Mrs Barker and Mrs Coombs every morning and Year 6 pupils are taught by Miss Musgrave and Mrs Bostock. Mrs Barker and Miss Musgrave share the afternoons with Upper Key Stage 2 pupils (Years 5 and 6), with Miss Musgrave teaching PE on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons; this term the Year 5 and Year 6 pupils are swimming on Tuesday afternoons. Miss Musgrave also teaches  Topic (the history of crime and punishment) on Friday afternoons. On Thursday afternoons the children learn about the Solar System in Science. We are all very much enjoying being with your children and we hope that they enjoy working with us.
