Welcome to Hercules Class!

Hello and welcome to the Hercules Home Page! We have lots of lovely Year 3 and 4 children in our class this year. Some of the pupils join Voyagers during the mornings and then rejoin us after lunch. The wonderful Mrs Williams and Mrs Edmunds (TAs) and Mr Drake (volunteer) support us in class.

I am a firm believer in hard work and putting 100% effort into each and every task. If your child comes home and tells you that 'the work is tricky or difficult,' please don't panic; it is meant to be challenging so that they have the opportunity to build on previous knowledge and develop new skills. I do not give my students work which they can access with ease as this will slow their progress and limit their capabilities. Learning is meant to be a whole of host of things- 'easy' is not one of them.

I am a huge fan of Prof Carol Dweck and her work on teaching children to have 'growth mindsets.' Over the next few weeks, I am hoping you will begin to hear your child say phrases such as, "I can't do it... yet," or "I have made a fantastic mistake which I can learn from." Promoting a growth mindset within the school and home reassures children that it is 'ok' to get things wrong. This in turn will help them to take more risks with their learning and feel less intimated by challenge.

If there is anything you would like to discuss with me about your child's wellbeing or education, my door is always open. Please make an appointment to see me after school so that we can chat in-depth. I look forward to the year ahead and working in close partnership. You are the experts on 'your child' and I would really value your input or any suggestions you may have.

 Thank you, Mrs Kerry Mills

Maths Planning Year 3 WB 08.06.20

Hello everyone, how are you all? Hope you are keeping well and having fun with your learning at home. This week you will be looking at equivalent fractions so I have posted some planning, links to useful websites and additional resources. As always, please feel free to dip in and out of the suggested tasks- I know lots of you also like to use your PowerMaths books and the online learning apps too. If there is anything else that you need, please feel free to email me and I will do my best to help.

Miss you all very, very much. Mrs M x

Hi guys, here is your maths planning for the next three days. Enjoy and please let me know via email if you need anything else. Mrs M x

Spelling Year Four 3/6/20

Hey folks, hope everyone is doing OK! For your spelling practice this week, I would like you to focus on the -ous suffix. I have attached lots of resources, web links etc for you to have a look at so... it is now over to you guys! There is no expectation for you to complete them all- I just wanted to give you some ideas and food for thought. Enjoy, Mrs M x

Spelling Yr Three 03/06/20

Hey folks, hope everyone is doing OK! For your spelling practice this week, I would like you to focus on the /ʌ/ sound spelt ‘ou’. I have attached lots of resources, web links etc for you to have a look at so you can see what takes your fancy. There is no expectation for you to complete them all- I just wanted to give you some ideas and food for thought. Enjoy, Mrs M x

Science Year 3 and 4

Hi folks, some of you have emailed me your science work which is absolutely brilliant. When you are ready to move on, here is the next set of planning, resources and activities. You may decide to look at some or all of these; the choice is yours.

If you are thinking of questions for the 'Science Quiz,' use the PowerPoint Presentation to help you. For example: (Q) Do some surfaces reflect light better than others? (A) Yes. The surfaces that reflect light the best are smooth, shiny and flat. (You could even organise a family quiz night and test your family's science knowledge. How exciting!)

Hope you enjoy! Mrs M x
