Welcome to Hercules Class!

Welcome to the Hercules Home Page!

We have lots of wonderful Year 2 and 3 children in our class. To support us within the classroom we have the fantastic Mrs Williams and Mrs Deegan.

We believe that time within school needs to be happy and safe which in turn will promote successful learning. Work should be a challenge in order to build on previous knowledge. Children need to believe in themselves to be able to tackle any given challenges. Mistakes will be made along the way (by us too!) and this is OK!  We need to learn from our mistakes and develop our knowledge to a greater depth.

We encourage the children in the class to speak out. If there are any concerns or successes, we want to know! And this is the same for parents. Please feel free to talk to us at any appropriate time. Unfortunately time can be limited for parents at the beginning or end of the day, but feel free to make an appointment and we will always make time for you. We are in a partnership to help develop your child’s independence, learning and happiness.

We look forward to what lies ahead these coming terms. We have many exciting things planned and we are looking forward to the Hercules class continuing to grow together.

Dinotastic Author Visit

We were so lucky to have local author, Jay Jay Burridge, visit us today to talk about his amazing Supersaurs books.  The children were privileged to spend over an hour with him as he explained how his series of books came about in which humans live alongside dinosaurs.  It was fascinating to discover how he used real life events and pictures to help conjure up images of humans riding dinosaurs or working alongside them.  Gradually his pictures evolved and along came this amazing idea on which his Supersaurs books are based.  It was a story of creativity, overcoming difficulties and perseverance; a truly inspiring talk...you can do anything if you put your mind to it!

Models of the village

I’m so pleased to come back this week and find some amazing models of the village. The children were set homework over Christmas to build a model of part of the village and they could get as creative as they wanted. Here are a select few of some of them. They are on display in the hall, on the windowsill so take a look if you have a chance!

We are now building models in class on the changes that we would make to the village. We’ve taken a small part of the village and designs improvements based on questionnaires that we also wrote and we can’t wait to show them!

Forest School Fun!

Hawkings Class have been enjoying exploring the Forest School site; bug hunting, pond clearing - and then dipping, using a flint and steel to start small fires, helping to prepare food for the campfire, using loppers, sawing and whittling and having fun in the mud kitchen.  Each week, the children have gone off and have been absorbed in their various activities; working together, persevering and having fun.  We have enjoyed each week and look forward to the rest of the term with them!

Young Voices 2018

A concert of over 6000 children, including us. Amazing atmosphere!

It's getting busy behind the scenes...

School is a hive of activity at the moment with preparations for the Christmas performances.  But it isn't just the children having to learn lines and songs; adults behind the scenes are working really hard to tweak costumes, create 'growing' beanstalks and paint props!
