Welcome to Hercules Class!

Welcome to the Hercules Home Page!

We have lots of wonderful Year 2 and 3 children in our class. To support us within the classroom we have the fantastic Mrs Williams and Mrs Deegan.

We believe that time within school needs to be happy and safe which in turn will promote successful learning. Work should be a challenge in order to build on previous knowledge. Children need to believe in themselves to be able to tackle any given challenges. Mistakes will be made along the way (by us too!) and this is OK!  We need to learn from our mistakes and develop our knowledge to a greater depth.

We encourage the children in the class to speak out. If there are any concerns or successes, we want to know! And this is the same for parents. Please feel free to talk to us at any appropriate time. Unfortunately time can be limited for parents at the beginning or end of the day, but feel free to make an appointment and we will always make time for you. We are in a partnership to help develop your child’s independence, learning and happiness.

We look forward to what lies ahead these coming terms. We have many exciting things planned and we are looking forward to the Hercules class continuing to grow together.

Science fun!

Today we had to make a cup of tea for Mrs Williams.  Quite a simple job, but I needed some helpers.

Once I poured the water, I needed someone to stir it.  I gave out spoons made from paper, plastic and chocolate.  The children had to write their names on the spoons.  This was easily done on the paper, but too tricky for the chocolate and plastic.

But when we got stirring the tea the paper was useless, as was the chocolate!

We had such fun investigating the different materials.  We decided that plastic spoons were good for stirring, paper was good for writing and chocolate is great for eating!!!

Building homes big and small

We had a fab session building; the children were keen to build dens for themselves so we had the tarpaulins and rope out - and some children chose to build a smaller natural den for ‘Wolfie’.  Thinking of homes, we had several bug house ideas for the children to have a go at building.  We were kept super busy sawing, drilling and hammering - but there will be some happy, cosy minibeasts in Oxfordshire!!

We have had a great week in Hercules! We had a great hockey lesson, a walk around the local area and we tasted Turkish delight as we have been studying The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe! Have a great weekend…..

Science discoveries!

To explore our Science work even further, this week we explored materials all around us.

We went on a material hunt to discover what things were made of certain materials, and why.  The discussion of clothing made of bricks and houses made of wool made us all chuckle!

A little time to dance!!

To celebrate the end of my 'week' with the class, and to say thank you for a great start to the new school year, we had  a five minute 'disco' before lunch today!!
