Welcome to The Hurricanes Class.

We are a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class with space for 20 Year 1 and 10 Year 2 children. Our teacher is Mrs. Winter with Mrs. Sutherland supporting. We aim to provide a supportive, nurturing environment where children can continue to progress on their learning journey and meet their potential. Children should feel secure to make mistakes as well as celebrate achievements.

We believe education to be a partnership between school and home, working together to meet the needs of every child. Communication is key to this partnership so please come and talk to us if you have any worries or concerns, or want to share your child's successes. If you wish to have a longer conversation, please make an appointment so we have time to listen.

We look forward to supporting your children as they continue to develop and grow.

Welcome new Hurricanes

We were so impressed with our new Year 1 and 2s today, both those already in our school and those who are joining us in September.  We started the day with some circle time to help get to know each other. Children were then able to choose independently alongside completing activities with an adult. This afternoon everyone made a birthday card for a secret person (to be revealed in the new academic year) before ending our day with a fruit snack and story in the story garden and some playtime outside.

New children took home an ‘All About Me’ booklet to complete at home with parents. If these could please be returned before the end of term they will help us get to know and prepare for your children joining us.

Thank you from Mrs Winter and Mrs Sutherland

Capacity and volume

A practical maths lesson today. We have been thinking about measuring and how we measure different things, length, weight or mass, temperatures and now capacity and volume. What is the difference? Capacity is the amount of liquid a container can hold, volume is how much space a liquid takes up.

We explored ordering containers according to their capacity then thought about appropriate vessels to transfer liquids. Would you fill a bucket with the cup or the spoon?

Jolly Geographers

This term Hurricane class are learning about the continents and oceans of the world. Today children used books and the internet to research information and find out facts about each continent to complete their fact sheets.

Hurricanes Heroes Chance to Shine.

Today we enjoyed our first cricket session with coach Julian. Children practiced catching and batting skills whilst having fun in the sun.

Hurricanes church visit

Today Gary from St Britius joined us for an RE lesson in the church. We explored objects in the church and learned their names.  Children enjoyed looking at the baptism register to see names they recognised.

Gary then led a short service to show children what this involves. He taught us a song and two children were invited to do a short reading.  It was great to have the opportunity for some learning outside the classroom.

Many thanks to Mr Drake for accompanying us too.
