Learners back in class
So, not quite back to ‘normal’, but today we were able to welcome some children back to school. They managed well with the changes, lots of washing hands and talking about how we help each other stay safe.
Please have a look at the pictures to see some of the things children were doing today. We are hoping to use the outside area as much as possible (weather permitting) as space is restricted in the classroom with the current table layout. Children were able to understand they needed to only use their own table and resources. They also did well eating lunch in the classroom.
This week we will be focusing on settling back into a routine and enjoying being with friends.
Coming back to school in a bubble!
Please share this story with your child to help them understand what coming back to school will be like, there is a pdf document attached that you can read or audio book to share, copy and paste into your search engine to listen (I couldn't get it to make a link, sorry).
Important Information for Learners returning to the classroom.
Please share this picture with your child if they are returning to school tomorrow as I would like them to be prepared for the fact that our classroom does look different from when they last were in school. We will be accessing the outdoor area as much as possible so children will still have opportunity for learning through exploration and play.
In the classroom every child has their own table, chair and resources. They each have their own writing pencil, coloured pencils, eraser, scissors and glue stick. I have ordered (and am assured will be delivered this afternoon) small plastic trays to go on their table to store their resources. We will add any maths resources, counting cubes, number lines etc as needed so children will not be sharing resources. There is no need for children to bring their own pencil case as I would prefer to limit the sharing of resources between home and school as much as possible.
We do have sufficient ipads in the classroom for children to have one each and not share. However, if your child does bring in their own device to access on line learning please ensure it is fully charged and the camera covered with tape.
We will be eating lunch in our classroom, with children seated at their table places. If your child is bringing their own packed lunch you may wish to put a cool block or ice pack in as we do not have facilities to store lunches in a fridge, they will need to go on the pegs in the cloakroom. If you are planning for your child to order a school packed lunch the sandwich filling choices are cheese, tuna or ham, it would be helpful if you could talk to your child about this prior to coming to school to help them make their choice.
Please note their will be no school milk or fruit provided for the rest of term. Please ensure your child has a named water bottle plus fruit snack for morning and afternoon. If your child is having a school packed lunch you will need to send in fruit snack as these will not be provided and we will have no spare fruit in school as it is not being delivered. As with packed lunches, snack will need to be stored in the cloakroom on pegs, so in a small rucksack or lunch bag would be ideal please. Water bottles will be kept on individual children's tables, we will of course refill them as necessary.
In limiting sharing of resources between home and school we will no longer be sending books home for the rest of this term. There is therefore no need for your child to bring in their book bag. Any school books you currently have at home, either those from reading schemes or the book corner, please now return to school, there is a plastic box in the cloakroom for children to deposit returned books in. Similarly if you could please now return any items from the home learning pack such as games, counting cubes and other resources, including their blue exercise books.
Please prepare your child for saying goodbye to you in the playground, we will stand at the blue gate to the Foundation area ready to welcome children in the morning and collect them all together before going in to wash hands then seating at tables for the start of the day. At the end of the day we will bring children out to the blue gate to send to you in the playground.
To limit changing of clothes in school on days when we have a specific activity that requires different clothing children should come in to school in those clothes and remain in them for the whole day. Monday will continue to be forest school so children should come in suitable clothes on that day. Our PE day will be Tuesday so children should come in to school in PE kit that they can wear all day, shorts and t-shirt with a school jumper or cardigan and suitable trainers (avoid laces if possible please) will be fine.
To maintain integrity of class 'bubbles' and ensure consistency across all class bubbles there have also been some small changes to staffing. I will now be in class every morning plus Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Teaching Assistant support will continue to be provided by Miss Hill plus Mrs Deegan, who was previously working with another class. We will all be working together on Monday morning to ensure a smooth start to the week, with Mrs Deegan supporting Mrs Rae in forest school in the afternoon. On Tuesday Miss Hill will be in class in the morning, Mrs Deegan in the afternoon. On Wednesday Miss Hill will be supporting all day and Thursday Mrs Deegan all day. On Friday Miss Hill will be with me in the morning with Mrs Deegan joining her in the afternoon to finish off the week.
I will continue to post Learning Guidance weekly as I have been doing since schools closed; we shall be following these plans in the classroom so children will have access to the same learning opportunities both at home and at school. For those choosing to continue Home Learning, whilst I am in the classroom I will not be able to answer emails quite so frequently, but hope to schedule in regular times to check-in. I will of course still be available to support all parents via email but may not respond immediately.
Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions. Let's hope the sun continues to shine!
