Welcome to Buccaneers!

In our class we have 20 children in Foundation Stage. Our teacher is Mrs Johnson; Miss Hill is our teaching assistant everyday with Mrs Mulcahy joining us on a Wednesday afternoon. On Monday afternoons we have Forest School with Mrs Rae.

In the Buccaneers we love to learn! We have created a a learning environment that encourages the children to practice new skills, play with friends, explore and develop ideas and most importantly have fun. We have a fabulous garden which we use as much as we can. The children have a mud kitchen which they use to make wonderful creations, leaf soup, mud chilli and my favourite hot chocolate! We also have a great tyre sand pit, water area, bikes and gardening area which the children enjoy planting seeds, bulbs and watching their plants grow.

Children's social, emotional, physical and communication skills are are supported in conjunction with the teaching of  reading, writing and maths. Our curriculum ensures that children's individual needs are met and they are given the best opportunity to develop and grow in a safe and inspiring environment. We support the children in developing the skills they need to build firm foundations that will help them as they progress on their learning journey.

Fruity Friday

This week we have been learning about 2d shapes and patterns in maths. Children have made shape pictures and repeating patterns which will soon be on display in our classroom. To consolidate their understanding, today we made fruit kebabs following a repeating pattern.  Children enjoyed eating these as their end of the afternoon snack.

Children have homework in their blue homework books to practise what we have been learning in class.

Church Visit

In preparation for the Harvest Festival Nightingales class visited the church last week. The children were sensible crossing the roads and were able to talk about road safety. They had time to explore the church building before finding out where they would be sitting next week when the whole school and parents will also be there. We talked about what the font is used for and found some familiar names on the christening roll.

Thank you to the parents who accompanied us.

Hapa Zome

Sometimes you get to Forest School and you know exactly what you're going to do; today was one of this days!  It was a little windy today - the perfect conditions to make a flag!  The children found leaves and did some Hapa Zome (leaf bashing!) to make patterns on material, and then fixed it to a stick to make a flag!

Story stones

We started off on the 25th September with some storytelling around the campfire.  The children then went off to search for story stones that the older children had painted and hidden around the site.  If they found one, they could then go off and hide it somewhere else for someone else to find.

Plenty of sawing again this week, as well as looking at the seasonal changes happening around us.
