Welcome to Buccaneers!

In our class we have 20 children in Foundation Stage. Our teacher is Mrs Johnson; Miss Hill is our teaching assistant everyday with Mrs Mulcahy joining us on a Wednesday afternoon. On Monday afternoons we have Forest School with Mrs Rae.

In the Buccaneers we love to learn! We have created a a learning environment that encourages the children to practice new skills, play with friends, explore and develop ideas and most importantly have fun. We have a fabulous garden which we use as much as we can. The children have a mud kitchen which they use to make wonderful creations, leaf soup, mud chilli and my favourite hot chocolate! We also have a great tyre sand pit, water area, bikes and gardening area which the children enjoy planting seeds, bulbs and watching their plants grow.

Children's social, emotional, physical and communication skills are are supported in conjunction with the teaching of  reading, writing and maths. Our curriculum ensures that children's individual needs are met and they are given the best opportunity to develop and grow in a safe and inspiring environment. We support the children in developing the skills they need to build firm foundations that will help them as they progress on their learning journey.

Savoury biscuit owls

Nightingales have been sharing the stories of Percy the Park Keeper in literacy, thinking about the different characters and animals. On Friday we made savoury owl biscuits. Our focus was on following instructions; children had to spread their biscuit with cheese spread then listen to instructions to place carrots, cucumber, slices of apple and grape to form their animal, could they recognise what they were?

Music fun!

It's a Baby!

Our Key Stage 1 children are amazing! Such confidence and enthusiasm! Everyone who saw "It's a Baby!" had a wonderful time. Well done everyone.

Festive Forest School

The last few weeks of Forest School were very busy, with many of the children choosing to create a variety of natural Christmas crafts.  We had tree cookie ornaments being sawn, snowmen being built, reindeer being created and santa sticks being whittled.  Some of the children hadn't used the tools before, so it was lovely to see them gain confidence as they learned a new skill.

Other children that had been interested in using a flint and steel to start a small shell fire, learned to make natural firelighters using wax, sawdust and egg boxes; they then used these to create a larger fire in a fire bowl.

The children have been trying lots of different food to warm them up on the colder afternoons - from crumpets to quesadillas (which were very popular!!) and good old hot chocolate!

We hope the children have enjoyed their term of Forest School; we will be welcoming back Nightingales on Mondays after Christmas and it will be the turn of Hawkings Class on Tuesdays.

It's getting busy behind the scenes...

School is a hive of activity at the moment with preparations for the Christmas performances.  But it isn't just the children having to learn lines and songs; adults behind the scenes are working really hard to tweak costumes, create 'growing' beanstalks and paint props!
