Cogges Farm Visit
Children enjoyed our day exploring Christmas through the ages. Activities included making Christmas decorations, crackers and spiced biscuits. We ended our visit watching a traditional puppet show.
More Christmas Cakes
On Friday, the second cooking group worked really hard preparing the ingredients for their Christmas cakes. They weighed, cut, squeezed and mixed their different ingredients, following instructions and using the language of time.
Getting in the Festive Spirit!
On Friday the children joined a massive cooking table to help make Christmas cakes! Some children were squeezing the juice out of lemons and oranges whilst others were cutting prunes - there was a lot of interest in the figs which most children had never seen before. The bowl was passed around the circle and each child added to the mix what they had been preparing and had a go at stiring the increasingly stiff mixture!
We had turns at weighing ingredients, cutting, smelling different spices and following instructions - discussing what might happen if we completed the steps in a different order and using the language of time: 'first, next, later, after'.
The children did really well and especially enjoyed cracking the eggs. The other half of the class will cook theirs this week!
Sunshine on a chilly day
We had a lovely afternoon outdoors on Monday. The children came wrapped up and were able to peel off a few layers as the afternoon progressed - which was perfect! They all kept warm with sawing tree cookies, mixing up culinary delights in the mud kitchen, digging, searching for pictures around the trees, bug hunting and playing together. It is so nice to see the children growing in confidence, working together and stepping out of their comfort zone to try new things.
Cheese Straws Anyone?
Today we each made 3 cheese straws and ordered them according to length in line with our maths topic. We got very sticky fingers in the process and enjoyed eating them for snack. The whole school smelt of cheese after all 60 were cooked!
