The Roman Army
In Class 5, we have been learning all about The Romans - in particular, the power of their army. As part of this topic, the children designed their own shields and we made the most of the sunny weather by going out on the rec and practising our best Roman army formations: the testudo and the orb.
Year 5/6 Cricket Tournament
On Monday 22nd May, the Year 5s and 6s took part in a cricket tournament at Shipton-under-Wychwood. The children were great team players, enthusiastic and had big smiles on their faces! I think the beautiful weather helped!
Bookfeast visit for Years 3 to 5
On a very rainy Wednesday 17th June, Years 3 to 5 visited St Hugh's College, Oxford to meet the children's author Claire Barker.
We all enjoyed listening to her speak about her inspirations to write (she has always loved reading) and we all enjoyed creating a new Pirate character with her.
She told us that she had been a teaching assistant and was frustrated by the lack of exciting books around. This inspired her to start writing her own stories, the first of which, Wishbone Pepper- Ghost Dog, we have been enjoying at snack and story time. She reminded us that it is never too late to start writing and that it is very, very easy to quickly develop a character and a setting.
So maybe we can all have a go!
RAF Falcons Trip
On Friday 5th May, Year 5 and 6 took a trip to the RAF base to watch the Falcons. Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions, the Falcons were unable to parachute down, although I think watching the C-17 fly over, exploring inside the chinook, meeting and receiving utographs from the Falcons and learning how they pack their parachutes more than made up for it! The beautiful weather and ice-cream probably helped too!
What a fantastic time we had at Easter School this year! The children were enthusiastic, hardworking and positively delightful. We designed our own holiday resorts, carried out some percentage work on how much we would have to pay our 'staff', created leaflets based on our resorts and used our fractions knowledge to share lunch out fairly. Oh and we enjoyed a well-deserved Easter egg hunt!
Well done Year 6s for being such a pleasure and thank you parents for encouraging them to come!
