Welcome to Curie Class!

Welcome to Curie (KerrRae the children like to say!) Class! Your child is lucky enough to be one of only 25 children in a mixed Year 4 and 5 class. Helping and inspiring your child on their learning journey are Mrs Rae (Monday and Tuesday am), Miss Kerr (Monday pm, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), Miss Kearvell (every day!) and Mrs Williams (mornings only).

It has been a pleasure to welcome your child to Curie Class; they have come back after the summer break, ready and eager to learn.  We are very much looking forward to spending the rest of the year with them.

To help you to support your child, we feel it is important that you understand our routine; every morning, we dedicate our time to Spelling, Maths and Literacy, and our afternoon timetable is currently as follows:

Monday - (Week 1)Music (improvise and compose) and Spanish (describing appearance/personality)

(Week 2) Art(illustration)/DT(construction) and Computing (e-safety and effective use of search engines)

Tuesday - PE (Tudor dance) and RE (Islam/Muhammad)

Wednesday - Science (Forces and Magnets) or Topic

Thursday - Science or Topic

Friday - PE (rugby) and PSHCE (relationships, friendship and bullying)

On Monday and Tuesday afternoon, Year 4 will be taught on their own and Year 5 will be taught together alongside Year 6.

We already have some exciting plans for the upcoming months, including an excursion to Hampton Court (9th November) and Young Voices (January 2018); both of these trips promise to be exciting and will leave your child with lifelong memories.

If you have any questions and need to talk to us at any point, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes from the Curie Class Team

Bookfeast visit for Years 3 to 5

On a very rainy Wednesday 17th June, Years 3 to 5 visited St Hugh's College, Oxford to meet the children's author Claire Barker.

We all enjoyed listening to her speak about her inspirations to write (she has always loved reading) and we all enjoyed creating a new Pirate character with her.

She told us that she had been a teaching assistant and was frustrated by the lack of exciting books around. This inspired her to start writing her own stories, the first of which, Wishbone Pepper- Ghost Dog, we have been enjoying at snack and story time. She reminded us that it is never too late to start writing and that it is very, very easy to quickly develop a character and a setting.

So maybe we can all have a go!

Year 3/4 tennis tournament

Well done to everyone who took part in our tennis tournament at Carterton Community College. Fantastic effort and enthusiasm all round!

RAF Falcons Trip

On Friday 5th May, Year 5 and 6 took a trip to the RAF base to watch the Falcons. Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions, the Falcons were unable to parachute down, although I think watching the C-17 fly over, exploring inside the chinook, meeting and receiving utographs from the Falcons and learning how they pack their parachutes more than made up for it! The beautiful weather and ice-cream probably helped too!

Year 4 Languages Day

All of the Year 4 children enjoyed a day out at Buford Secondary School on Thursday 27th April.

They experienced a wide range of languages (French, Spanish, German and Japanese) and activities.

The children were amazing and we are very proud of how they conducted themselves and interacted with new children and teachers!

Fab first Forest School session with Class 4

We had every type of weather this afternoon; sun, rain, hail and even some snow!!

The children embraced their time out at Forest School; they built dens, went pond dipping, dug holes, started fires, sawed tree cookies, did some natural weaving, made different Elder creations, learned to lash, toasted marshmallows and attempted to put up a hammock!!  There was so much teamwork, co-operation, discovery and perseverance naturally happening - it was lovely to see!

Same again next week!!
