Welcome to Curie Class!

Welcome to Curie (KerrRae the children like to say!) Class! Your child is lucky enough to be one of only 25 children in a mixed Year 4 and 5 class. Helping and inspiring your child on their learning journey are Mrs Rae (Monday and Tuesday am), Miss Kerr (Monday pm, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), Miss Kearvell (every day!) and Mrs Williams (mornings only).

It has been a pleasure to welcome your child to Curie Class; they have come back after the summer break, ready and eager to learn.  We are very much looking forward to spending the rest of the year with them.

To help you to support your child, we feel it is important that you understand our routine; every morning, we dedicate our time to Spelling, Maths and Literacy, and our afternoon timetable is currently as follows:

Monday - (Week 1)Music (improvise and compose) and Spanish (describing appearance/personality)

(Week 2) Art(illustration)/DT(construction) and Computing (e-safety and effective use of search engines)

Tuesday - PE (Tudor dance) and RE (Islam/Muhammad)

Wednesday - Science (Forces and Magnets) or Topic

Thursday - Science or Topic

Friday - PE (rugby) and PSHCE (relationships, friendship and bullying)

On Monday and Tuesday afternoon, Year 4 will be taught on their own and Year 5 will be taught together alongside Year 6.

We already have some exciting plans for the upcoming months, including an excursion to Hampton Court (9th November) and Young Voices (January 2018); both of these trips promise to be exciting and will leave your child with lifelong memories.

If you have any questions and need to talk to us at any point, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes from the Curie Class Team

Year 4 Haka rugby dancing

On Tuesday 8th November the Year 4 pupils went to Buford School to learn and perform a Kiwi 'Haka-inspired' dance. It was loud, exciting and very enjoyable. We all had fun and could perform our dance in front of all the other partnership primary schools!

Bonjour Boulogne!

On Wednesday, some of the Year 6s spent the day in Boulogne. Despite the early start and rainy weather, the children remained positive, happy and smiley! They had a fantastic time wandering around the local market, exploring the town, writing postcards home and sipping on 'chocolat chaud' in a little cafe. It was very impressive to see how keen they all were to speak as much French as possible, so well done, Year 6!

Maths Challenge

On Thursday 15th October, Years 5 and 6 attended a maths challenge day at Magdalen College in Oxford. The children engaged in a variety of practical maths activities, which required them to work as part of a team and think outside the box! They had lots of fun learning maths in a different environment and trying to beat the clock with their calculations!

Hockey Tournament

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 team for their great sportsmanship at the Burford hockey tournament. We came third of six - not bad considering that we were one player down and it is a new sport for most of the children. Well done everyone.

Hockey

As well as going swimming this term, the children are playing hockey in their PE lessons. Their competitive side made an appearance on Tuesday as they played for points in mini games - note the professional kit as well!
