Welcome to Curie Class!

Welcome to Curie (KerrRae the children like to say!) Class! Your child is lucky enough to be one of only 25 children in a mixed Year 4 and 5 class. Helping and inspiring your child on their learning journey are Mrs Rae (Monday and Tuesday am), Miss Kerr (Monday pm, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), Miss Kearvell (every day!) and Mrs Williams (mornings only).

It has been a pleasure to welcome your child to Curie Class; they have come back after the summer break, ready and eager to learn.  We are very much looking forward to spending the rest of the year with them.

To help you to support your child, we feel it is important that you understand our routine; every morning, we dedicate our time to Spelling, Maths and Literacy, and our afternoon timetable is currently as follows:

Monday - (Week 1)Music (improvise and compose) and Spanish (describing appearance/personality)

(Week 2) Art(illustration)/DT(construction) and Computing (e-safety and effective use of search engines)

Tuesday - PE (Tudor dance) and RE (Islam/Muhammad)

Wednesday - Science (Forces and Magnets) or Topic

Thursday - Science or Topic

Friday - PE (rugby) and PSHCE (relationships, friendship and bullying)

On Monday and Tuesday afternoon, Year 4 will be taught on their own and Year 5 will be taught together alongside Year 6.

We already have some exciting plans for the upcoming months, including an excursion to Hampton Court (9th November) and Young Voices (January 2018); both of these trips promise to be exciting and will leave your child with lifelong memories.

If you have any questions and need to talk to us at any point, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes from the Curie Class Team

Spelling Heaven!

Homework

We would like the children to focus on learning their weekly spellings (tested on Monday mornings) and their times tables (tested on Wednesday morning). Children receive their new weekly spellings on Tuesdays and their maths homework on Wednesdays. We are sure that you are aware that the age-related expectations for your children have increased significantly and that we need to prepare them as well as we can for their future learning. This requires the children to have an instant recall of multiplication and division facts to 12x12. When the children have passed all of their times tables tests then they will receive different maths homework in which they will consolidate the weekly learning. Year 6 children will receive supplementary homework. Occasionally, another piece of homework may be sent home. This might be related to one of our school events, for example our Harvest Festival.

Please support your children to complete their homework. They should also be reading for at least twenty minutes, five times a week. Year 4 and 5 children are expected to write the date, title of their book and number of pages read. This helps us to guide your children's choice of reading material. Year 6 children should be writing about what they have read, guided by comments made by a teacher.

We thank you for your support.

Miss Musgrave, Mrs Bostock, Mrs Coombs and Mrs Barker

Welcome to Class 4 and Class 5!

Welcome to everyone!

Year 4 and Year 5 pupils are taught by Mrs Barker and Mrs Coombs every morning and Year 6 pupils are taught by Miss Musgrave and Mrs Bostock. Mrs Barker and Miss Musgrave share the afternoons with Upper Key Stage 2 pupils (Years 5 and 6), with Miss Musgrave teaching PE on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons; this term the Year 5 and Year 6 pupils are swimming on Tuesday afternoons. Miss Musgrave also teaches  Topic (the history of crime and punishment) on Friday afternoons. On Thursday afternoons the children learn about the Solar System in Science. We are all very much enjoying being with your children and we hope that they enjoy working with us.
