Welcome to Hawking Class!
Hawking Class have made a great start back after Christmas! I've really enjoyed listening to what they got up to during the Christmas holidays and see some of the photos from thereading challenge.
Our topic this term (Spring 2018) is the Neighbourhood Plan; more information about this can be found within the class letter. I'm certain that that the children will love this topic.
During this term, we have forest school on Tuesday afternoons, so please make sure that your children are sent with the right clothes to get changed with.
We ask that PE kits are in all week, please.
This half term, we will be focusing on the value of integrity; we will talk about this in class and during assemblies
Mrs Johnson, Mrs Godfrey and I have really enjoyed teaching your children so far and getting to know them. We look forward to having your children in our class and seeing them progress.

Multi skills at Cokethorpe
Our team of Year 3 and 4 children had great fun and took part lots of different activities, including target throwing, relay racing, speed bouncing and keeping a tennis ball up - Ashley managed an amazing 240! Well done to everyone, and thank you to Cokethorpe School for the pizza and ice cream afterwards.
Bookfeast visit for Years 3 to 5
On a very rainy Wednesday 17th June, Years 3 to 5 visited St Hugh's College, Oxford to meet the children's author Claire Barker.
We all enjoyed listening to her speak about her inspirations to write (she has always loved reading) and we all enjoyed creating a new Pirate character with her.
She told us that she had been a teaching assistant and was frustrated by the lack of exciting books around. This inspired her to start writing her own stories, the first of which, Wishbone Pepper- Ghost Dog, we have been enjoying at snack and story time. She reminded us that it is never too late to start writing and that it is very, very easy to quickly develop a character and a setting.
So maybe we can all have a go!
Year 3/4 tennis tournament
Well done to everyone who took part in our tennis tournament at Carterton Community College. Fantastic effort and enthusiasm all round!
We have begun to experiment with our bean plants and we have been working very hard to ensure that we are carefully measuring and controlling our plants' conditions.
The plants that are in very little light in our classroom cupboard are particularly interesting- the leaves near the door are growing and the leaves in the dark are withering away.
We think that this is because plants use light as energy to make food in the leaves.
Photos to follow soon!
It's great to be back and I hope that everyone had a good break from routine.
Please find attached a letter from the staff explaining our learning topics this term and our timetable. We hope this will be useful.
