Welcome to Hercules Class!

Hello and welcome to the Hercules Home Page! We have 32 lovely children in our class this year. Some of the pupils join Voyagers during the mornings and then rejoin us after lunch. The wonderful Mrs Webb is our classroom TA.

As I am new to the school, please allow me to briefly introduce myself. My name is Kerry Mills and I have been teaching for several years. I also have a background in Social Work, lecturing and private tutoring up to GCSE standard. I am very passionate about my job and take my role as a teacher very seriously- I have firsthand experience of the importance of education and how it can dramatically enhance the life of a young person. I'm sure you are pleased to know that I have high expectations of myself and the children in my class; I am a firm believer in hard work and putting 100% effort into each and every task. If your child comes home and tells you that 'the work is tricky or difficult,' please don't panic; it is meant to be challenging so that they have the opportunity to build on previous knowledge and develop new skills. I do not give my students work which they can access with ease as this will slow their progress and limit their capabilities. Learning is meant to be a whole of host of things- 'easy' is not one of them.

I am a huge fan of Prof Carol Dweck and her work on teaching children to have 'growth mindsets.' Over the next few weeks, I am hoping you will begin to hear your child say phrases such as, "I can't do it... yet," or "I have made a fantastic mistake which I can learn from." Promoting a growth mindset within the school and home reassures children that it is 'ok' to get things wrong. This in turn will help them to take more risks with their learning and feel less intimated by challenge.

If there is anything you would like to discuss with me about your child's wellbeing or education, my door is always open. Please make an appointment to see me after school so that we can chat in-depth. I look forward to the year ahead and working in close partnership. You are the experts on 'your child' and I would really value your input or any suggestions you may have.

 Thank you, Mrs Kerry Mills

Visit from Robert Courts MP

Our new MP, Robert Courts, came to school on 6th April to meet our Key Stage 2 children and explain who he is, what he does, and how they too can become an MP or even Prime Minister one day. He answered all their questions and ended with a photo with our school council (who he described as the equivalent of Parliament).

Red Nose Disco

Our school captains wanted to organise a disco to support Comic Relief. It was organised almost entirely by these four children and they did a great job with their music choices and DJing. Well done!

Sewing workshop

Key Stage 2 enjoyed a workshop in which they were able to learn how to use a sewing machine. They did a great job and have produced some very professional-looking cushions.

Apologies to parents whose children are now asking for their own sewing machine- proof indeed that this was a fun and valuable experience for all.

World  Book Day

After an exciting dance session based around either Where the Wild Things Are or The BFG, we enjoyed a week of work around these themes, culminating in dressing up as book characters. The costumes were simply amazing!

Well done to everyone (including adults) for all of your thought and hard work.

We all thoroughly enjoyed this week.

Sewing Workshop

We had great fun making cushions in our sewing machine workshop.
